Testing Straightfast for a Creative Portfolio Website
I was working on a redesign for a creative portfolio site recently, and I needed a font that would stand out but still feel professional. That's when I came across Straightfast, a bold and interesting handwritten font from Script Amp. It immediately caught my eye because of its unique character and versatility.
The first thing I noticed about Straightfast was how it felt both modern and personal. It had the warmth of a hand-drawn script but with enough structure to be legible in digital formats. I decided to test it in the hero section of the homepage, where the main headline would be displayed over a full-width image.
Using Straightfast as the main title gave the design a more human touch. It helped break away from the usual sans serif or serif fonts that dominate most websites. The font’s slightly irregular strokes added visual interest without being distracting, which is something I always look for in display fonts.
I also experimented with using Straightfast in smaller sections like section headings and call-to-action buttons. It worked well for short phrases and emphasized key messages. However, I found that it wasn't ideal for longer blocks of text, especially on mobile screens. That’s why I paired it with a clean sans serif font for body copy, creating a balanced contrast between decorative and functional typography.
One of the things I appreciated about Straightfast was its ability to fit into different design contexts. For instance, I used it for a blog header graphic, where it blended nicely with a soft background color. It also looked great in a course sales page, where it added a sense of creativity and approachability to the brand identity.
When designing for a boutique online store, I tested Straightfast on product banners and promotional landing pages. The font didn’t overpower the visuals, and it maintained a consistent tone throughout the website. It helped reinforce the brand’s personality—creative, thoughtful, and a bit unconventional.
Readability was a top priority during testing, especially for mobile users. I made sure that the font size was large enough on smaller screens and that there was sufficient contrast against the background. In some cases, I used a light overlay on images to ensure the text remained visible and easy to read.
Font pairing played a big role in this project. I paired Straightfast with a minimalist sans serif typeface for body text, which allowed the handwritten font to shine in headlines and titles without making the overall layout feel cluttered. This combination created a strong visual hierarchy, guiding the user’s attention naturally through the content.
Another consideration was the availability of webfont versions and file formats. I checked that Straightfast was optimized for fast loading times and supported multiple languages, which was important for a global audience. The commercial font licensing also aligned with the needs of the client, ensuring that the font could be used across all their digital assets, including social media graphics and email templates.
I also explored the various styles included in the font family. There were several alternates and weights that allowed me to fine-tune the design for different sections of the site. These variations gave me flexibility in how I used Straightfast—whether for a bold headline or a more subtle accent in a sidebar.
For the final design, I used Straightfast primarily in hero sections, headers, and promotional banners. It brought a sense of authenticity and creativity to the brand while maintaining a polished and professional look. The font helped create a cohesive visual language that aligned with the client’s goals and target audience.
If you're looking for a font that can elevate your digital brand without sacrificing readability, Straightfast is definitely worth considering. Its unique style makes it perfect for creative projects, and its adaptability ensures it can work well in a variety of design scenarios. Whether you're building a portfolio site, an online store, or a coaching platform, Straightfast has the potential to make your brand stand out in a meaningful way.
